Pottery Making Experience
Pottery
making is a very ancient profession of farmers who waited for the leftovers of
straw collected after harvesting wheat and barley. The straw collected is mixed
with water and the local lime soil present in the villages and left to soften
overnight. The next day, this dough of straw and mud is used to shape their
pots, dishes, oil lamps…etc. then get burnt in an earth oven for 24 hours before
being ready to use. The same dough was also used to attach the natural stones
of their houses together instead of cement. You will get to shape your own masterpiece
under the guidance of Bookagri woman farmer at her outdoor open terrace that
overlooks the agricultural valley of Jerash and enjoy a fabulous traditional
meal with the zalabia as traditional dessert with tea and Arabic coffee.
